DOMA=1,138 Wrongs

These past few months, we've had huge victories in the fight for equality. Not only has DADT been repealed, but our President publicly announced his support for gay marriage. However, there are still so many battles ahead of us, one of which is DOMA.

DOMA or The Defense of Marriage Act makes it so the Federal Government can continue to not honor marriage equality. So, while the couple in question may be legally married in their state, they are still denied so many rights. This video explains how that situation could affect both our military personal and the loved ones who are waiting for them to come home.

DOMA is as a real issue and it has real devastating affects on those in the LGBTQQA community. Under this act LGBTQ couples are denied 1,138+ rights. These range from Social Security Survival and and Spousal Benefits to being denied leave if their spouse dies.  When are we, as Americans, going to acknowledge that ALL of us should have the same rights? Or perhaps Representative Steve Simon, said it best “How many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves if he wants them around?”
