What is PFLAG?

I will be signing copies of my latest print book, The Lost Shifters at tonight's Detroit Greater RWA meeting.Once again, I will be donating my proceeds to the Detroit PFLAG chapter. As I prepared for this event  it reminded me of a conversation I had recently. I mentioned PFLAG and the person I was speaking with had no idea what I was talking about. At first I was a bit shocked, since the person in question writes M/M, but then I realized that maybe I should use my blog to educate others about this wonderful, life saving organization.


What is PFLAG? Surprisingly, that's sometimes a hard question to answer, because the organization has done so many different things for so many different people. On their website they state their mission as "PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity."

I know for me PFLAG has become my family, my support and the ones who I know will always be there for us. Last September, in this midst of the gay teen suicide epidemic, they called our home, just to make sure Cody was doing okay. While we weren't having any issues at the time, it gave us great comfort to know we had that support.

While I could go on all day about this, I decided to share these three videos. They do a wonderful job of sharing just what PFLAG is and how it can help so many people.
